Although I know most people find rodents in general to be offensive, I have a fondness for them. Inquisitive squirrels, shy chipmunks, comical woodchucks, frolicking prairie dogs, and marvelous marmots bring joy to my heart.

These critters are often the only mammals daring enough to cross my path and pose for a photograph. And even when I can't see them, their chatter fills the forest or meadow acknowledge my passing. They see me when I often feel invisible in the world.
I find these animals to be joyful reminders of the resilience of nature as many have adapted to urban and suburban landscapes. And even in these less-than-optimal environments, they not only find ways to survive but to thrive while still expressing their inquisitive and playful nature.
